Public Relations Intern Opportunity

Wanted:

College student majoring in public relations, journalism, public communication, or related course of study to serve as a PR intern in not-for-profit organization serving children and adults with special needs in the Stamford/Greenwich (Connecticut) area. Position reports to Director of Development and Communications, and duties support the community-awareness and fund-raising goals of ARC.

Duties:

Assist with editing and production of ARC annual report, newsletters, web    content, presentations, etc.

Assist with the promotion and planning of ARC special events.

Create a press kit for ARC.

Identify potential calendar announcements, news and feature opportunities within     ARC.

Identify target media outlets (newspapers, radio, TV, Internet, newsletter, etc.) for     ARC news and features.

Identify appropriate editors and reporters within media outlets and maintain    contact lists.

Write and disseminate releases.

Track and monitor coverage of ARC, as well as coverage of local special-needs     community issues and concerns.

Qualifications:

Successful completion of freshman year of college studies. Demonstrated knowledge of how to write a basic, coherent, news release or news story. Ability to use email and word-processing software, and easily navigate the Internet. Willingness to approach editors and reporters by phone, snail- and e-mail about worthy story ideas. Sensitivity to – and genuine interest in – people with special needs.

Hours:

Flexible.

Compensation:

This is a voluntary position; however, ARC will cooperate to ensure that intern receives academic credit, if desired or needed.

Duration of internship:

Negotiable.
