With the assistance of the Junior League and Community Chest of Greenwich, a group of parents of children with special needs organized the Greenwich Association for Retarded Citizens in 1951. What they created over 50 years ago is now known as ARC. Our spirit of innovation and determination to provide the highest quality services is reflected in our purpose and philosophy.

ARC designs services to empower individuals and their families and to foster inclusion, interdependence and self-expression. Our supports build upon individual strengths and preferences with the ultimate goal that each person will live in our community as a productive, participating member. ARC works with local, state and national organizations to develop a comprehensive system of supports for people with special needs. Through advocacy and public education, ARC promotes awareness of the abilities and needs of its participants.

To build an accessible, responsive and innovative system of community supports for people with special needs and their families in the greater Greenwich/Stamford area.
